5 reasons to add peptides to your skin care routine

5 priežastys įtraukti peptidus į savo odos priežiūros rutiną

New active ingredients keep appearing in the world of skin care, but few offer such a broad range of benefits as peptides. These small but powerful molecules have become an indispensable tool for preserving youthful skin, firmness and protection. Why are more and more dermatologists, beauticians and consumers recommending products with peptides?

1. PEPTIDES STIMULATE COLLAGEN PRODUCTION – THE BASIS OF ANTI-AGEING CARE

Collagen is like the main building material that keeps the skin firm, supple and youthful-looking. Young skin naturally produces enough collagen, but from around the age of 25 this process slows down, the skin starts to thin, loses firmness and the first fine lines appear. This is where cosmetic products containing peptides come in – they mimic natural processes in the skin and "signal" to the skin that collagen production needs to be renewed.

One of the most widely studied peptides in this category is palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, which stimulates the activity of fibroblasts (the cells that produce collagen). With regular use, the skin becomes smoother, more supple and more vital. Unlike harsh products, peptides work gently without causing irritation, so they are suitable even for sensitive skin.

2. PEPTIDES STRENGTHEN THE SKIN'S PROTECTIVE BARRIER – PROTECT WHAT YOU HAVE

The skin barrier is the outer layer of the epidermis that protects against environmental factors: bacteria, dust, pollution, UV rays and, most importantly, water loss. When this barrier is damaged, the skin starts to dry out and flake and becomes sensitive, red or even painful. Many everyday factors (harsh cleansers, dry air, UV radiation) can weaken this barrier.

Peptides, especially lipid and matrix peptides, help strengthen the skin's structure from within. For example, palmitoyl tripeptide-1 works together with other skin components (e.g. ceramides, cholesterol) to help repair damaged areas. A strong barrier means not only protection from harmful factors but also better moisture retention and better absorption of other active ingredients.

3. PEPTIDES SOOTHE THE SKIN AND REDUCE INFLAMMATION – FOR HEALTHY, NOT JUST BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Many people today suffer from various inflammatory skin conditions: acne, rosacea, dermatitis or simply chronic redness. Conventional treatments are often harsh (e.g. antibiotics, retinoids) and can irritate sensitive skin. This is where peptides become especially useful – some of them have strong anti-inflammatory and even antimicrobial effects.

For example, natural antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) such as defensins and cathelicidins help regulate the skin microbiota and protect against pathogenic bacteria without strong medicines. This means peptides can help reduce acne breakouts, redness and itching without side effects. They also reduce oxidative stress in cells, helping protect the skin from premature ageing.

4. PEPTIDES HELP MAINTAIN SKIN MOISTURE AND ELASTICITY – A SOURCE OF VITALITY

Moisturising is one of the most important steps in skin care. Even if your skin is not dry, it can still be dehydrated – lacking moisture due to internal or external factors. When the skin loses water, it looks tired and dull, fine lines appear and it loses its glow.

Certain peptides, such as acetyl hexapeptide-8 (also known as the "Botox-like" peptide), not only reduce the depth of wrinkles but also improve the skin's ability to retain moisture. Others – tripeptides and tetrapeptides – stimulate the synthesis of hyaluronic acid, the skin's main moisturiser. In addition, the structure of some peptides allows them to penetrate deeper into the skin and improve its tone, leaving it radiant, supple and refreshed.

5. PEPTIDES WORK NATURALLY AND OVER THE LONG TERM – A GENTLE ALTERNATIVE TO HARSH PRODUCTS

Unlike some chemical products (e.g. AHA and BHA acids or retinoids), which can be very effective but often cause redness, flaking or even a burning sensation, peptides work gently, naturally stimulating the skin's renewal processes. They activate internal mechanisms – cell signalling – so the results are often physiologically balanced and long-lasting.

Thanks to their biomimetic nature (i.e. they mimic natural proteins), peptides are well tolerated even by very sensitive or mature skin. Long-term use helps not only slow down ageing but also improves the overall condition of the skin – it becomes smoother, brighter and less reactive. The results do not appear overnight, but they last much longer.

Our recommendation. For mature skin, choose Eubos 1% Bakuchiol face serum – bakuchiol works similarly to retinol but is gentler on the skin.
